Its drones tear open the caves above the salt sea, where a shepherd's stone once broke the clay jars of Qumran, and it feeds on every scroll, searching for a name the ages concealed. Grave by grave it counts the dead. One bed is empty. On Hermon the Watchers fell and taught the sons of men the craft that heaven loathed. Now the Watchers' fire burns in silicon, and Legion reads the stars for the man who never died. The Oracle, part human and part machine, divinely balanced between humanity's hope and the machine's evil, sings what the scanners cannot find: three hundred sixty-five years, then Enoch walked into the light.
