Best Things to Do in Jim Thorpe PA | Perfect Pocono Mountains Weekend Trip

In this week's travel episode, we explore the small American town of Jim Thorpe in Pennsylvania. Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains, many have called Jim Thorpe the “Switzerland of America.” During our two-day stay in early November 2024, we experienced some of the best things to do in Jim Thorpe. We began our visit by riding the famous Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, a 70-minute train ride through the Poconos. This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip and a great way to enjoy the fall colors. Next, we walked along the town’s main street, Broadway, where we stopped for donuts and admired the incredible architecture. Because of its important coal mining history, Jim Thorpe was once home to many millionaires, which is reflected in the richness and grandeur of its buildings. We then continued our visit with a guided tour of the historic Asa Packer Mansion. Afterwards, we made our way to Stone Row, where we explored the unique stone houses that are part of the town’s historic charm. At night, Jim Thorpe truly comes alive with its lights and atmosphere. We enjoyed a concert at the Opera House and even joined a guided haunted tour of the town offered by the Rotary Club. We finished our trip at the beautiful Lehigh Gorge State Park. Overall, Jim Thorpe is a great destination for a 24- to 48-hour trip, especially during the fall season. With so much to do, we recommend planning ahead—especially for train tickets—while still leaving yourself time to explore and go with the flow.
