‎Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has issued a stern ultimatum demanding a public apology from Minister of Water and Environment Maj Gen (Rtd) Kahinda Otafiire, escalating tensions within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM). ‎ ‎The Chief of Defence Forces and Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) chairman Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba demanded the apology after Otafiire’s remarks in Parliament urging generals to resolve disagreements without violence. ‎ ‎Gen Kainerugaba announced his position in a series of posts on X on October 2, 2026. He initially gave Otafiire one week to apologise or face consequences. ‎ ‎ ‎“I hear my junior MG.Otafiire made some statements in parliament against me. I’m giving him exactly 1 week to apologise to me or else he will see,” Gen Kainerugaba wrote. ‎ ‎He later shortened the deadline. ‎ ‎“One week is too long, he has 3 days to apologise,” he added. ‎ ‎Otafiire, the Minister of Water and Environment, addressed Parliament on September 30, 2026. He called for political tolerance and criticised generals who prefer violence as a means of solving problems. He did not name Gen Kainerugaba in his speech. ‎ ‎ ‎“When you see a general who prefers violence as the best means of solving problems, then there is a problem,” Otafiire told MPs. ‎ ‎In a public lecture at Valley University of Science and Technology in Bushenyi, Otafiire distanced himself from the PLU and declared he would rather die fighting than live begging. ‎ ‎The exchange adds to longstanding differences between the two generals, including Otafiire’s earlier public rejection of Gen Kainerugaba’s presidential ambitions. ‎ ‎#Muhoozi #MuhooziKainerugaba #KahindaOtafiire ‎ ‎
