What If You Never Forgot a Single Second?

Ezra remembers every second of his life, and he can rewind any of them like a movie. No studying, no lost keys, no lost arguments. But he can't forget the bad ones either. Then, on Lantern Night, he says the one thing he can never take back, and his little sister disappears in a storm. Which memory would you dare to rewind first? Tell us below, with the date and time. Highly superior autobiographical memory is extremely rare; only a few dozen people have been confirmed (UC Irvine research; Live Science). Memory is reconstructive; in the "lost in the mall" study about one in four participants came to remember a planted false event (Loftus & Pickrell, 1995). The amygdala tags emotional and embarrassing events so they are remembered more strongly. During sleep the hippocampus replays the day; in rats the replay ran roughly six to seven times faster than real time (2007). Sharp central vision (the fovea) covers about two degrees, roughly a thumbnail at arm's length. The 2014 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded for discovering the brain's positioning system; London taxi drivers who learn ~25,000 streets show a larger posterior hippocampus (Maguire et al., 2000). Six inches (15 cm) of moving water can knock an adult down (US National Weather Service). Lost? Hug a tree and stay put: classic search-and-rescue advice for children. Learning French takes English speakers about 600–750 class hours (US Foreign Service Institute estimate). #whatif #animation #stickman #memory #brainscience
