Friend of Honor - Whaa Going On?

New York-based artists Friend of Honor and Claudio H present Whaa Going On?, a three-track EP with two versions of their collaboration “Like That!” and one solo cut from Friend of Honor. “Like That!” started as an idea between three friends and spent a while sitting in the archives. Sent out later on a whim, it picked up new momentum and finally got finished. The Original Mix runs on a thick bassline and bright chords, shaped by gradual automation that lets each one keep its own space. On the title track, Friend of Honor goes somewhere more abstract. Crunching drums and heady vocals circle a groove where the bass and chords share the room. In both drops, the vocal phrases land right as the harmony shifts, which is the idea: it should feel like that moment on a night out when you’re not quite sure what’s happening. The Reharm Edit closes the EP with the same bassline as the Original Mix but rebuilds the harmony around it. A heavy chord breakdown brings out a more emotional side of the collaboration, offering a second answer to the same starting point.
