Edinburgh 1970 - Cycling Road Race

Cycling at the Edinburgh 1970 British Commonwealth Games proved to be a series of close finishes.⁣ ⁣ Cycling Australia star Ray Bilney narrowly missed out on the gold medal in the Men's road race to New Zealand's Bruce Biddle. On a cold and wet Saturday morning, cyclists departed to complete 105 miles (169km) around the city of Edinburgh in a route which even toured through the Queen's Edinburgh palace gardens.⁣ ⁣ In a thrilling ending, the race came down to a near photo finish, with Bilney missing out on the top step of the podium by millimetres. Fellow Aussie John Trevorrow claimed the bronze medal.⁣
