24 Hours Camping Above One of Britain’s Biggest Secret Nuclear Bunkers

Today we’re heading back to one of Britain’s most incredible Cold War locations — the Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker in Essex. Hidden beneath an ordinary-looking bungalow in the middle of the woods is a huge underground complex originally built in the early 1950s as part of the RAF ROTOR programme. During the Cold War it was later developed into a Regional Government Headquarters, designed to keep military personnel, government officials and essential staff operating in the event of a nuclear attack. The bunker stretches across multiple underground levels, reaches roughly 125 feet below ground, and was designed to accommodate hundreds of people with its own communications rooms, medical areas, sleeping quarters, generators, ventilation systems and emergency supplies. I actually visited this bunker around five years ago for a paranormal investigation, but this time we’re coming back to explore it properly and film as much of this incredible Cold War time capsule as possible. Once we’ve explored underground, the adventure isn’t over. We head back above ground into a nearby forest — an area that’s been dubbed Britain’s “Blair Witch Woods” — where we set up camp directly above the secret bunker and spend the night surrounded by nothing but woodland.
