FreeCAD: How to create thick walled and hollowing out objects and how to prevent offset failure

It is common in FreeCAD to hollow out an object to make a void inside or to create walled objects. But this can often fail with such tools as the 3D offset in the part workbench and thickness tool in both part and part design wb. In this tutorial I explain some of the reasons why they fail such as the 3D Offset Bpel error, how to check for failure and how to fix so there is more of a chance a offset of thichness will be applied successfully.
