Green Flash (2024/2026) - Willie Cornish, Jr.

Green Flash is the rare optical phenomenon of a striking green spot appearing during ocean sunsets due to the refraction of light over the earth’s horizon. While Green flashes are highly unpredictable and short-lived, they are a beautiful and otherworldly sight. I created this piece as a flashy, unpredictable, and brisk work for the trumpet to showcase the oddly beautiful optical phenomenon. Like a green laser, the trumpet part begins very focused and rhythmic but slowly dissolves into the piece's core motivic cells. The piano's repetitive rhythms shape the ocean's impulsive waves as the sun and green flash race to the darkness of the night. Special thanks to my performers Whitney Corpany & Matthew Osterholzer, and a BIG thanks to my lovely friend Charlie Smith for commissioning this piece. - Get in contact with me!: williecornishjr@gmail.com Visit my website: www.williecornishjr.com SoundCloud: soundcloud.com/willie-cornish Instagram: instagram.com/wcjrmusic Tiktok: tiktok.com/wcjrmusic
