Lou Donaldson "Caravan" (Blue Note) 1969

Warm and languid stuff from one of the most celebrated of Blue Note's great cast of Jazz sax legends. Lou began playing in the late 1940s Bop era and remained busy, and stylistically relevant, throughout a career that lasted virtually until his death at 98 years of age in 2024. Here we find him in the thick of the James Brown-led Funk/Black Power epoch, in a year in which he cut and released three full albums. A stellar line-up on this "Say it Loud!" LP session, too. Lou Donaldson (Saxophone), Blue Mitchell (Trumpet), Jimmy Ponder (Guitar), Charles Earland (Organ), Leo Morris (Drums).
