For a long time, he thought being grateful meant he wasn’t allowed to admit something hurt. If God had been faithful… shouldn’t he be okay? If he still believed… shouldn’t he have moved past it? If he was thankful… was he even allowed to say: “THAT HURT ME.” 🙏🏽❤️ GOD NEVER ASKED ME TO PRETEND IT DIDN’T HURT is a Gospel Blues / Southern Soul / Gospel R&B record about discovering that faith doesn’t require rewriting painful experiences until they sound painless. Two things can exist in the same testimony: “GOD HAS BEEN FAITHFUL.” and… “THAT HURT ME.” Both can be true. You can thank God for carrying you and still admit there were days when getting out of bed felt heavy. You can believe what you said on Sunday… and struggle on Monday morning. You can worship… and still have questions. You can be healing… and still have memories that hurt. Because: FAITH DIDN’T MAKE THE WOUND IMAGINARY. For some people, the hardest part isn’t believing God was there. It’s believing they’re allowed to be honest about what happened while still believing He was there. Sometimes when we’re hurting, people rush toward an explanation: “Everything happens for a reason.” Maybe what we actually needed in that moment wasn’t an explanation. Maybe we needed someone willing to sit beside us and simply say: “THAT WAS HARD.” No ribbon around the ending. No rushing toward the lesson. No requirement to transform pain into inspiration before we’ve even caught our breath. And sometimes: “I DON’T UNDERSTAND” CAN STILL BE AN HONEST STATEMENT OF FAITH. 🙏🏽 This record doesn’t ask the singer to call betrayal a blessing. It doesn’t ask him to call loss easy. It doesn’t ask him to smile through every difficult memory to prove that he still believes. Instead, he realizes something: If God already knows his heart… WHY WOULD HE CLEAN IT UP BEFORE HE PRAYS? So the prayer changes. “God… I’m thankful.” … “And I’m still hurt.” “I’m healing.” … “And some things still bother me.” “I forgive what I can today.” … “HELP ME WITH WHAT I CAN’T.” Then comes perhaps the most vulnerable admission: “I’M NOT TRYING TO SOUND STRONG RIGHT NOW. I’M TRYING TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH.” That’s where this song lives. Not in pretending everything has healed. Not in forcing an inspirational ending. Not in claiming all the questions disappeared. But in realizing you can bring God all of it. Your gratitude. AND YOUR GRIEF. Your worship. AND YOUR QUESTIONS. Your faith. AND YOUR PAIN. Because maybe trusting God isn’t saying: “This didn’t hurt.” Maybe sometimes it’s saying: “THIS HURT BADLY… AND I’M BRINGING THAT TRUTH WITH ME TOO.” 🙏🏽❤️ And by the end, the singer still doesn’t rewrite yesterday. He simply knows he doesn’t have to. GOD HAS BEEN FAITHFUL. “Yes, He has.” AND THAT HURT ME. “Both can be true.” No contradiction. No performance. Just an honest prayer. And an honest faith. 🙏🏽 LIKE if you’ve learned that faith and pain can exist in the same story. ❤️ SHARE this with someone who may need permission to be honest with God about what they’re carrying. 💬 COMMENT: What’s one thing you’ve learned about being honest with God during painful seasons? 🔔 SUBSCRIBE for more original Gospel Blues, Southern Soul, Gospel R&B, Christian Hip-Hop, Blues and story-driven music from WarDog Music Group.
