Highlights from our first ever trip to the Gloucestershire Vintage and Country Extravaganza held at South Cerney Airfield, famous for being used as the filming location for the ‘Piece of Cake’ Battle of Britain TV drama representing 'RAF Kingsmere’, in the iconic series that involved Ray Hanna performing the infamous bridge fly under stunt.   We also see the famous 1930s style control tower, and the base is now part of the Duke of Gloucester Barracks, home to the British Army and used for light aircraft ops and parachuting. Now given that the West Somerset Railways annual Norton Steam Rally has been cancelled this year, it’s given engine and vehicle owners who would normally attend that event more flexibility, and certainly while interacting with owners of engines normally found at the WSR event today, they were up for trying something new this year so there’s been a bit of a split between some attending here and some trying out the Torbay Steam Fair    • Saturday at the 40th anniversary Torbay St...   for the first time, and there were a lot of new and first time engines on display and working around the play pen today! Enjoy a look around the airfield taking in the sights of the showground with an abundance of traction engines, vintage and military vehicles, classic cars, bikes, vintage busses, trade stalls and lots more. Arena demonstrations properly kick in at the weekend but there was a good display of locally manufactured Cotton motorcycles, and plenty of steam in the play pen throughout the day. While taking in the ambience of the steam traction engines parading around the play pen, we clocked a pair of Rockwell B-1B Lancers departing from RAF Fairford, roaring over the rally site making for a great impromptu addition, and we later caught this pair returning to base at Fairford. After leaving the show, we headed across to RAF Fairford where the B-1 pair returned to base after a local sortie, and a great pair today being ABNEY43 85-0060 'Doolittle Raiders’, which I have been wanting to get flying since RIAT last year! This airframe has only just returned after maintenance in the hangar, and was followed in by the WA tail ABNEY44 86-0107 'Dragon Slayer’, which both did a couple of touch and go circuits before landing so two great catches this afternoon! Finially after RAF Fairford, we finish with coverage from South Cerney village outside the Old George Inn and Elliot Arms pubs, with engines and vehicles from the rally participating in the road run, popping down for a pint at the local pubs, and a fantastic evening atmosphere with the pubs bustling and all the vehicle owners from the show enjoying their first evening of what should be a brilliant weekend. This was a cracking day and we will certainly be back for this event in the future! | 31.07.2026 I hope you enjoy this video and thank you for watching!
