Nancy Adams - California Dream Boy / One Tiny Taco
(MGM Records K-14059) 1969
Written by Floyd Huddleston, George Romanis.
Flip Written by Floyd Huddleston.
Both sides Produced by Don Costa.
Arranged by George Romanis.
This hidden gem was sung by Nancy Adams, wife of songwriter and
TV producer Floyd Huddleston, a renowned female pop singer and
session singer. She's also famous as a backing singer for Frank Sinatra,
and the B-side of this single is a testament to that,
featuring a cool jazz funk tune.
The song was composed by her husband, Floyd Huddleston,
and the lyrics were written by former jazz bassist George Romanis.
George Romanis founded the Commercial Production Company
in Madison, New York, and produced a large number of TV jingles
featuring artists like Louis Armstrong, Peggy Lee, Stan Getz, Eartha Kitt,
Bobby Vinton, Buddy Greco, and Vic Damone.
This success led him to Hollywood, where he worked on commercials
for films and TV series such as Hawaii Five-O, Streets of San Francisco,
Twilight Zone, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Barnaby Jones, Air Wolf, etc.
His film credits include the MGM Studios hit "Hollywood: The Dream Factory,"
"Of Mice and Men," "Joe Dancer," "Helltown" (starring Robert Blake),
"Eight on the Lam" (starring Bob Hope), "Oxford Blues" (starring
Rob Lowe & Ally Sheedy), and "Kentucky Woman" (starring Cheryl Ladd).
George Romanis also handled the arrangements for this work,
but since the producer was Don Costa, it seems there's a connection
to Frank Sinatra.
And the singer, the tiny and adorable female session singer
Nancy Adams, is a great singer! She's not as sweet as Shelley Fabares,
but she's still cute, and her voice is like a soft, pleasant breeze,
making you feel like you're soaring up when you listen to her.
The song structure can easily get monotonous, but this is superb.
