24 hours under glide bombs in Dobropillia

As Russia’s summer offensive stalls elsewhere along the front, one of Moscow’s main focuses is Dobropillia, a town in Donetsk Oblast. Unable to take the city by force, Russian troops have turned to leveling it with glide bombs, artillery, and drones, transforming the once lively streets into a kill zone. The Kyiv Independent’s Francis Farrell and Olena Zashko embed with the 15th Brigade of Ukraine’s National Guard, also known as Kara Dag, part of the 1st Azov Corps, joining an FPV drone team living and fighting out of the city’s basements. They travel into the city with a drone crew on rotation, watch pilots hunt hidden Russian positions, and walk through what’s left of a city that, just a year ago, was still a functioning logistics hub — now emptied of nearly all civilian life.
