As Election Day on November 3rd approaches, more churches are speaking out about Prop 1. And with that comes a familiar objection: “What about the separation of church and state?” Earlier on this channel, we heard from a pastor who explained why he believes churches have a responsibility to speak when political issues touch on clear biblical teachings. But what does the law say? I spoke with an attorney who specializes in constitutional law about what “separation of church and state” actually means—and whether it requires churches to remain silent on issues their congregations will be voting on.
