Once DNS becomes critical to your HomeLab, running it on just one server creates a single point of failure. In this video, I build a redundant Technitium DNS setup with its native clustering feature, synchronize zones and configuration between two active DNS nodes, and configure OPNsense Kea DHCP to provide both resolver addresses to clients. Most importantly, I test the setup from a real Ubuntu client and take the primary DNS server offline to see what actually happens. Along the way, I explain the difference between Technitium clustering, DHCP resolver distribution, and the failover behavior controlled by each client operating system.
