The Leaning Tower of Pisa should have fallen before it was even finished. By 1990 its top hung 4.5 metres past the base, and Italy closed it to the public. So why is it still standing? The answer isn't in the stone. It's in the soft clay under Pisa: the same ground that tipped the tower over, fed a loop engineers call leaning instability, and turned two well-meant repairs into near disasters. In this episode we follow the tower from 1173 to today: the war that accidentally saved it, the walkway and the cement that made it worse, the collapse in Pavia that forced Italy to act, the night crews stacking lead during Black September, and the counterintuitive fix that finally pulled it back by 44 centimetres. Load Limit tells the stories of structures at their breaking point: why they still stand, how long they have left, and what brings them down.
