How to Snell a Hook: An Easy Way Using the Uni Snell Knot

How to snell a hook using the Uni Snell Knot, step by step. If you already know how to tie the Uni Knot, you're most of the way there; the Uni Snell uses the same basic knot, tied around the hook shank to make a snelled hook. Learning a fishing knot and remembering how to tie it are two different things. I break this one into five steps and two simple shapes: a C that follows the curve of the hook, and a lowercase d that goes over the hook and the line. Remember the C and the d, and the rest falls into place. For visibility, I'm using paracord to represent fishing line and a 16/0 straight-eye circle hook, so you can see the line pass through the eye, form the loop, wrap the shank, and tighten into place. The process is the same with fishing line. Which hook you tie it to is your call. THE 5 STEPS 1. Thread the eye, inside to outside (from the point side) 2. Follow the hook curve to form a C 3. Bring the tag over the hook and line to form a lowercase d 4. Make your wraps through the loop 5. Wet it, snug it down, tighten, and trim HOW MANY WRAPS? It depends on line thickness and type. Thinner line usually takes more wraps, thicker line fewer. I use five on paracord.
