Most homes in plantation landscapes open themselves outward. The Screen Lantern House in Tirur designed by Zero Studio does the opposite, it filters, screens, and then reveals. Instead of treating the house as a transparent object in nature, the architecture uses its outer form as a protective screen. The façade acts as a controlled barrier, reducing direct exposure while allowing light, air, and filtered views to enter the interior in a calibrated way. At night, the entire volume behaves like a lantern within the plantation. The spatial planning is built around a continuous experience of movement rather than isolated rooms. A long water feature at the entrance becomes the primary organizing spine, guiding circulation and setting a calm threshold before entering the main living spaces. Inside, openness is balanced with carefully placed privacy. Minimal partitioning allows common areas to remain visually connected, while bedrooms are positioned to maintain seclusion without disconnecting from the surrounding greenery. The architecture constantly negotiates between exposure and retreat. A defining layer of the project is its emotional intent. Designed for a family living abroad, the house is not just a residence but a return point, shaped around homecoming.
