We finally mounted our 100W solar panel to the roof rack of the Yucca-Pac Safari camper.
This is the next step in building a simple 12V power system for our full-size overland truck and camper setup. Using approximately $30 worth of angle brackets, T-slot nuts and M6 hardware, I mounted the panel low between the extruded-aluminum crossbars.
Keeping it below the top of the rack should help protect it from wind while leaving room to temporarily carry something above it when solar charging is not needed. The space underneath the panel also allows air to circulate, which can help keep the panel cooler.
The panel is mounted securely, but the wiring is still temporary. For now, we can route the cable down and connect it to the solar input already installed on the Yucca-Pac when we reach camp. The next decision is whether to drill through the camper roof or find a way to route the wiring without adding another roof penetration.
What would you do? Would you drill through the roof, and if so, what sealant or cable-entry system would you trust?
