Why do I still cycle after 60–and ride more than 2500 miles a year? For me, cycling is more than exercise. It supports strength, endurance, mobility, heart health, independence and mental well-being. Just as importantly, it brings back that wonderful feeling of freedom many of us first discovered on our childhood bicycles. In this episode of Retired and Curious, we’ll explore the benefits of cycling as we age, along with practical advice about bike fit, pacing, recovery and visibility. We’ll also discuss stationary bikes and adult tricycles for people who want the benefits of cycling but may have concerns about balance or road safety. Cycling cannot stop the aging process—but it can help us remain active, capable, connected and curious. You don’t have to ride fast or travel thousands of miles. Every ride counts. Do you still cycle, or are you thinking about getting back on a bike? Tell me about it in the comments.
