How do we feed a growing global population while protecting the planet?
In the first episode of Life Sciences at UCL: The Big Questions, host Professor Simon Gaisford is joined by Professor Gail Taylor, Dean of UCL's Faculty of Life Sciences and an internationally recognised plant scientist, to explore one of humanity's greatest challenges: creating a sustainable food system.
Together, they discuss food security, climate change, biodiversity loss, food waste and the future of agriculture. From developing more nutritious crops and improving sustainability through plant science to the potential of gene editing and sustainable aviation fuel, the conversation examines how scientific innovation could help address the complex challenges facing food production worldwide.
The episode also explores why producing more food is only part of the solution, and why science, policy and global cooperation must work together to build a healthier and more sustainable future for everyone.
Whether you're interested in sustainability, food systems, climate change, plant science or the future of our planet, this episode offers fascinating insights into one of the defining issues of our time.
