What happens when a new teacher becomes your teaching partner—and just a few months later, the entire world shuts down? In this episode of Good Kids Don’t Happen By Accident, I sit down with Hope Meanix Huffman, who was my sixth-grade teaching partner during one of the most unusual school years any of us have ever experienced. Hope was only in her first full year of teaching when we became partners. She taught language arts and social studies, and from the beginning, she had a way of connecting with kids, listening to families, and creating a classroom where students felt heard and valued. Then COVID changed everything. We talk about navigating virtual teaching, keeping kids connected when they couldn't be together, visiting students at their homes, creating a special sixth-grade send-off, and what that experience taught us about what children really need from the adults in their lives. Hope also shares what becoming a mom has taught her about teaching—and why she believes children learn far more from what we show them than what we simply tell them. We talk about: • Listening before reacting • Building relationships with students and parents • Keeping kids connected during difficult times • What children remember about their teachers • The lessons COVID taught us about education • Teaching online and building classroom community • The transition from teacher to parent • Giving children grace while maintaining expectations • And the responsibility we have to model the values we want our children to learn One of my favorite things about this conversation is that Hope reminded me of something I learned throughout my teaching career: Sometimes you only need one special year with a group of kids—or a teaching partner—to create an impact that lasts forever. Because good kids don't happen by accident. They're built through expectations... encouragement... accountability... and adults who never stop believing in who they can become. ❤️ Keep believing in your kids, because they're still becoming. 🎙️ Good Kids Don’t Happen By Accident with Coach Steve #GoodKidsDontHappenByAccident #CoachSteve #Parenting #Teachers #Education #RaisingKids #Teaching #ParentingTips #TeacherLife
