Building Walls (06/2026 ) I smile where I should be laughing, Like a stranger in my own skin. I hold the room together softly, While the silence settles in. I'm here for everyone around me, For every storm and every fall. But when the night comes looking for me, I don't answer when it calls. I belittle who I am So I won't be seen too clear. I wear my doubts like old blue denim, Threadbare from the passing years. I learned to hide behind the kindness, To disappear without a sound. Giving pieces of myself away Until there's little left to find. I ask for silence, But I build these walls. I say I need nobody, Then I wait for someone to call. I keep one hand on the doorway, One foot ready to run. I'm tired of being half-hidden, Tired of what I've become. I have no answers left to offer For all your questions anymore. I've swept the dust beneath the floorboards, I've locked every honest door. But maybe these walls aren't forever, Maybe they're only made of fear. And maybe if I stop pretending, My own voice will reappear. I smile where I should be laughing, But tonight I'll let that be. I'm here for everyone I love— Maybe I can be here for me.
