This Isn't the Usual Way Up Sugar Loaf Mountain in Abergavenny... 🏔️

If you’re looking for a different way up the Sugar Loaf above Abergavenny… this is it. Instead of the usual straight-up-and-down route, this one takes you through the quiet, atmospheric woodland of St Mary’s Vale, before opening out onto the mountain and looping back down through the Deri Allt valley — a proper varied circular with a bit of everything. I filmed this on a calm day, and it’s one of those walks that just keeps changing…woodland paths, narrow lanes, open farmland, then suddenly you’re up on the ridge with those massive views across the Black Mountains and beyond. It’s proper old woodland — quiet, slightly eerie in places, but brilliant to walk through. Then you break out of the trees, hit open ground, and the Sugar Loaf just appears in front of you.
