Concept RE-Remixed of multiple Matt Gray Reformation tracks by C64 Music Stuffs and Released by Joss. Le tracce vengono dal progetto Indie pazzesco da parte di un veterano della scena musicale inglese legata al Commodore 64. Tra i grandi pionieri del SID assieme a Rob Hubbard, Martin Galway, Ben Daglish, Jeroen Tel, appunto, Matt Gray, Reyn Ouwehand, Tim Follin, Chris Hülsbeck ed altri, Matt Gray tornò alla ribalta del panorama musicale Commodore con un'operazione per nostalgici da togliere il fiato: una Collection di remake di sue celebri composizioni degli anni ottanta, da Driller, Tusker, Rambo II e soprattutto The Last Ninja 2, probabilmente il suo capolavoro e presentato con una nuova incredibile incarnazione. Il progetto includeva una campagna Kickstarter, dove il musicista ha ringraziato i suoi baker con copie su CD esclusive della sua opera, incluso ovviamente il cofanetto completo, chiamato Reformation, composto da quattro dischi. È proprio Last Ninja 2 a lasciare senza parole, presente in cinque movimenti, segue fedelmente la composizione originale, ma con un'opera certosina di pulizia dei suoni che aggiorna lo spirito del SID, affiancandolo a sonorità che possiamo definire più moderne. Il risultato è un atipico incontro tra vecchio e nuovo, che non solo rende giustizia, ma esalta ulteriormente i brani originali. I brani del Commodore 64 erano e sono oti per il loro dinamismo ed energia, purtroppo limitata dalle possibilità tecniche del chip sonoro. Al posto del vecchio snare storpiato, adesso abbiamo potentissimi giri di batteria e feroci linee di basso e chitarra elettrica. Gray nei pezzi lascia sempre grande spazio alle sonorità 8-bit che tutti abbiamo amato. Questa traccia di 53:56 minuti nasce da una collaborazione di qualche anno fa col canale C64 Music Stuff, semplicemente mixando le nostre tracce preferite di Matt Gray. Come sempre un pensiero va sempre all'immortale e compianto Ben Daglish, a cui inviammo qualche anno fa un messaggio a Ben per ringraziarlo dei suoi brani musicali in particolare per Last Ninja che rimarranno nella mia anima per sempre. Ben si è sentito davvero onorato del nostro feedback e della gratitudine di tutti gli altri amici. Just really mixing my favourite Matt Gray tracks, I do really like them chord changes so I made sure they would seemlessly blend in from one track to another. Almost an hour of mixing! Respect to the late Ben Daglish RIP. A few years ago I personally messaged Ben to thank him for his Last Ninja music tracks, they will be in my soul forever and asked him if he heard any of hundreds of remixes of his own tracks by hundreds of different people all over the world, to which he hadn't! I was shocked he actually replied! Ben felt really honoured by my feedback and everyone elses gratitude and he hadn't heard any remixes (at that time anyway) and would do some checking up! Big thanks to Matt Gray for stunning remixes, I really like the athenticity and foundation from the originals brought forward to the 21st Century.
