On October 31, 1919, the revue "Las Corsarias" premiered at the Teatro Martín in Madrid. Its famous pasodoble "La Banderita" (The Little Flag / The Dear Flag) was immediately heard in the streets and cafes, sung by soldiers going to the war in Africa after the collapse of the Melilla General Command, and even King Alfonso XIII himself confessed to singing it while shaving. This pasodoble earned Maestro Alonso, as its composer, the Grand Cross of Alfonso XII. This pasodoble remains fresh and vibrant, with the same capacity to evoke emotions as in those distant days of the African campaign. Its lyrics refer to the so-called "backpack flag" or "backpack flag." It was issued to soldiers to protect their belongings on campaign, was also used to mark positions, and ultimately as a shroud. This tradition, that of the backpack flag, has continued to this day.
