Coraline (2009) follows Coraline Jones, an adventurous young girl who has recently moved into the Pink Palace Apartments with her busy parents. Bored and frustrated with her new life, she begins exploring the house and discovers a small hidden door. One night, the door opens into a tunnel leading to an alternate version of her home. There, Coraline meets the Other Mother and Other Father, strange versions of her real parents who seem more attentive, more fun, and willing to give her everything she wants. The only major difference is that they have black buttons sewn over their eyes. Coraline soon discovers that the Other Mother’s kindness is hiding something much darker. She has trapped other children in the Other World and wants Coraline to stay permanently by sewing buttons over her eyes too. When Coraline’s real parents disappear, she is forced to return and confront the Other Mother. With help from the cat and the ghost children, Coraline has to outsmart her and find a way to escape before she becomes another prisoner of the Other World.
