Serving Life Without Parole: Howard’s Story | Day in the Life

Howard entered prison at 18 and has now been incarcerated for 31 years. He is serving life without parole for taking another person’s life, a decision he says he regrets every day. In this Day in the Life episode, Howard reflects on his early years in prison, the harm caused by his actions, and the conversation with his mother that forced him to confront the person he had become. Today, Howard transcribes textbooks into Braille, teaches classes within the Intensive Therapeutic Community, and mentors men who may still have the opportunity to return home. Although he cannot change his past, he has chosen to build a life centered on accountability, service, and purpose.
