This series of six compositions, with the last song premiering on Janmashtami day, is dedicated to the celebration of one of the most adored God heads of our country, Krishnaparamatma. Vishnu's incarnations were all undertaken to uplift the downtrodden and establish righteousness. In the Krishna Avarata, in particular, we see myriad dimensions of the Lord - the exploits of baby Krishna, his youthful exuberance, the phase of a romantic lover, a trustworthy friend, and of course, the experience of him being the universal Guru. This land has celebrated Lord Krishna extensively - from North to South, East to West, so many composers have celebrated the Supreme Being in several languages. Their work reflects the wondrous diversity and the different forms of Bhakti with which Krishna has been approached and revered. Krishna, thus, is a pan-Indian experience, who plays in our hearts and with our minds, and ultimately bestows knowledge and auspiciousness on all devotees. This series of 6 compositions - each in a different language, composed by different composers, in different parts of the country, portraying or enjoying the Lord in a different manner, attempts to capture and commemorate this experience. The youngest of the trinity, Shri Muthuswami Dikshitar, has composed many compositions on Lord Krishna. This particular one, set to a lilting and exquisite Dwijavanthi, is a popular and colossal masterpiece. Like in all of his other compositions, Dikshitar has conveyed the imagery of Lord Krishna in this song by combining the music (sangeeta) and the lyric (sahitya) in the most glorious manner. This krithi describes Lord Krishna and his various attributes and characteristics, and is set in Dvitiya Vibhakti.
