Zach then explains the sequential branching of the bronchial tree, from primary bronchi to terminal bronchioles, emphasizing the timing and stages of lung development—pseudoglandular, canalicular, saccular, and alveolar phases. The lecture also reviews the formation of the pleural cavities, pulmonary vasculature, and surfactant production by type II pneumocytes.
