Calling Skuld: What Happens When You Ask Fate to End? | Ancient Norse Ritual

Sæll, drengr! This one started from a simple thought: what would it feel like to go back to the Nornir a second time — not just to observe them, like before, but to ask Skuld directly for something final? This is meant as a continuation of the first song, the same young Galdr, further along in her search. Only this time, it's not clear anymore whether she's asking about her own fate, or asking Skuld to interfere in someone else's. There's a moment where she just keeps repeating "þráður lokinn" — the thread is closed — almost like she's trying to make it true by saying it enough, or trying to understand what she's actually asking for as the words leave her mouth. By the end, something closes. Whether it was her own thread, or one she was trying to protect, is left unclear even to her. Welcome to NORDRHEIM. Skál! — Lyrics in Old Norse - SKULD - Þráður Lokinn Skuld sitr við þröskuld, þráðinn heldr í hendi; enginn kemr yfir, þar er örlög bíða. Hljóðna, hjarta, heyr þú nafn mitt. Nóttin lokar augum, niðr fellr silfr í brunni; þræðir slitna eigi, fyrr en eg mæli. Mál mitt bindr, mark mitt lokar. Skuld… Heyr mig, Norn, gef mér lok þíns þráðar. Þráður lokinn. Þráður lokinn. Lokinn… Þráður lokinn, örlög bundin. Örlög bundin. Þráður lokinn, örlög bundin, Skuld vakir. Vakir… vakir… Þráður lokinn, örlög bundin, Skuld vakir, enginn snýr. Þráður lokinn. Loka… Nú er þráður lokinn, nú er leiðin þögnuð; Skuld lyftir hendi, eldrinn tekr ei aftur. Hljóðna, heimr— ég loka. Loka… Hverr sér sporin undir snjó? Hverr þorir nefna það sem lokat er? Þráður minn sefr, þröskuldr er lokaðr; Skuld sitr enn, með hljóð í munni. Bíðið eigi, leiðin er enduð.
