A genuine 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, hidden away in an old Chicago garage for nearly 14 years. A car with a remarkable history, Carroll Shelby's signature, and a story that deserves to be told. This is car number 562, and its next chapter begins right here on Be Aircooled. It all starts with a phone call about an old Mustang that needs some help getting back on the road. What Brandon discovers is something far more special than he ever expected: a REAL Shelby GT500, tucked away under a cover, waiting to see daylight again. Owned by Chris since 2001, this Shelby was once a regular sight at car shows and Shelby American gatherings. Over the years, Chris developed a remarkable connection to the people, history, and legacy behind these legendary machines. His memorabilia collection includes Carroll Shelby's personal signature on the car, along with 24 signatures from people connected to the history of Shelby American, including legendary racing driver Bob Bondurant and other members of the original Shelby world. As we uncover the car and listen to Chris share its history, we get a glimpse into a time when he had the opportunity to meet Carroll Shelby, attend Shelby reunions, and connect with some of the people who helped make these cars legendary. But now, after nearly 14 years asleep in that Chicago garage, it's time for this Shelby to begin a new chapter. We get the GT500 out of its hiding place, load it onto the tow truck, and bring it back to Be Aircooled, where the real work begins. With its original 428 cubic inch V8 waiting to come back to life, there's a lot to go through before this Shelby is ready for the road again. Our first steps include draining the old fuel, inspecting the fuel tank, and going through the brake system to see what nearly a decade and a half of sitting has done to this historic muscle car. And this is just the beginning. This is the first episode in a full build series documenting the mechanical restoration and revival of Shelby GT500 number 562. We'll be carefully going through the engine, fuel system, brakes, and everything else necessary to bring this car back to life.
