The Metro Manila Subway (MMSP) is the Philippines' first underground rapid transit line. It is a flagship infrastructure project designed to reduce traffic congestion and improve travel across Metro Manila. Key facts Length: Approximately 33 km Stations: 17 stations Type: Mostly underground, with a depot in Valenzuela Operator: The Philippine government (through the Department of Transportation), with support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Rolling stock: Japanese-designed metro trains Planned route The subway will connect: Valenzuela Quezon City Ortigas (Pasig) Bonifacio Global City (Taguig) Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) FTI (Taguig) Major planned stations include: East Valenzuela Quirino Highway Tandang Sora North Avenue Quezon Avenue Anonas Katipunan Ortigas North Ortigas South Kalayaan Avenue Bonifacio Global City Senate–DepEd NAIA Terminal 3 FTI Travel benefits Once fully operational, the subway is expected to: Reduce travel time from Quezon City to NAIA to around 35 minutes. Serve hundreds of thousands of passengers daily. Connect with existing rail lines such as MRT-3, LRT-1, LRT-2, the North–South Commuter Railway, and the Metro Manila Skyway network through intermodal stations. Current status (2026) Construction is ongoing across multiple sections, including station excavation, tunnel boring, and depot works. The project has experienced delays compared with its original schedule, so the full line is not yet operational.
