In this video, I've demonstrated a step-by-step drawing of a beautiful and serene charcoal landscape scenery. This natural scene depicts a man sitting on a lake, fishing, surrounded by grass, bushes, trees, distant hills, and calm water. The entire drawing was created in a realistic manner using charcoal pencil.
In this scenery, I carefully created the various important elements of the landscape. First, the natural background and the distant mountain area were created with light, soft charcoal tones to give the distant environment a hazy and realistic appearance. Next, I used dark and light values in the trees and bushes to create an effect of depth and distance.
The grass and small plants on the lakeshore were created using varying pencil strokes and pressure. The strokes varied in direction and length, rather than keeping the grass uniform, giving the entire foreground a more natural appearance. I added small details to the trees and bushes to create a realistic texture.
The most striking feature of this drawing is the small figure of a man fishing. Instead of making the man too large or overly detailed, he is positioned in proportion to the scene, making him appear a natural part of the landscape. The fishing rod and seating position are perfectly shaped and placed. The small figures create a beautiful storytelling effect throughout the scenery.
The lake water is created using smooth charcoal shading and soft blending. Light and medium values are used in the water, avoiding overly dark strokes, which creates the effect of a calm and natural water surface. The transition between the shore and the water is also blended gradually to maintain depth in the landscape.
In this charcoal landscape drawing, simply creating an outline is not enough. Small details like light direction, pencil pressure, tonal values, texture, blending, distance, and contrast play a vital role in making the drawing realistic. This video demonstrates the practical use of these techniques alongside the drawing.
