NFS: Heat - On The Run

NFS often shows action scenes for its intense police pursuits between racers and police officers. Like Hot Pursuit, Rivals, and Unbound, Heat is where players can experience both sides of the law as a racer and police officer or by participating in illegal and legal races to understand them thoughtfully. This is also part of what makes NFS stand out. Reputation increased by the danger at night in Heat forms a risk-reward model while the characters and their stories remind us of the value of life and the moments of happiness that can easily be overlooked in daily life. Being exposed to the unusual in movies, books, and video games sometimes is a way to do so. Video games can simulate such situations and allow us to put ourselves in somebody else’s shoes without facing real-world consequences. It is legal in daytime races. In night races, winning is not always about simply driving as fast as possible but it is about knowing when to take a risk, how to escape, or when to slow down and think about the situation. Heat is a case study in modern NFS and arcade racing games in general, and I just realized that the voice acting in this game is so cool, especially this scene. These games often prioritize story and exploration over realistic driving techniques as found in simulators and usually appeal to a wider range of players. NFS: Shift and Shift 2 Unleashed are the two titles in the series that introduced players to the realism of racing and laid the foundation for Project CARS series but there were fewer players into them, into motorsport with tracks and lap times despite the advance of physics engine, realistic car behavior, organized career mode, and incredible songs. It is known that the engine of Shift 2 Unleashed runs at 360Hz while others such as rFactor 2 can achieve 400Hz for its core engine and even 2400Hz for the tyre to reduce approximation and latency as much as possible.
