In this video, I’m showing you how to take a single Jane Magnolia and turn it into three separate plants through the process of division. The Jane Magnolia is a beautiful, sterile hybrid of a Japanese and Chinese, meaning it won’t grow from seed—so if you want more, you have to propagate! I’ll walk you through exactly what I look for at the garden center to find plants that are "prime for dividing," including how to spot offshoots and manage a pot-bound root ball. We’ll also cover: How to safely remove a pot-bound plant (even if you have to cut the pot!). Rinsing the root ball to see exactly where to make your cuts.
