The 17th Gyalwang Karmapa shared the historical and spiritual connections between the Karmapa lineage and Drukpa Kagyu and especially with the Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel. The Karmapa thanked His Majesty The King, His Majesty The Fourth King and the Royal Family for being able to visit Bhutan. He said he has always wanted to visit Bhutan given the old connections between the Karmapa lineage and Bhutan and with Bhutan’s Kings. He said that when though the Dharma King Ashoka built many stupas to spread Buddhism there is no mention of 108 Chortens in a day. He said what Bhutan has done under the leadership of His Majesty The King is a first and he knows it will bring blessings and prosperity to Bhutan. The Karmpa said that with the 108 Jangchub Chortens the Gelephu Mindfulness City and Bhutan is a pilgrimage site equivalent to Bodh Gaya, Potala and Mount Wutai (Manjushri).
