In this fictional POV story, your sister-in-law, the airpark association's president, calls you a squatter on the ramp in front of everyone and pulls your daughter out of the kids' first-flight line. She's sure your family lives on association land. She has it backwards: the well behind your house is yours, and all 160 homes on the bench drink from it under a state water right your family has held since 1957.
You're the pump man, like your father before you, and you've kept quiet about the paperwork for years. Then a builder's 44-lot ridge plan needs that water, the pump fails in the hottest week of July, and the board calls the owners to Hangar One. The recorded agreement is read out loud, and you have to decide what the water is for.
