Deportee is a powerful Jamaican stage play that explores what happens when the past catches up with you. This is a tale of a man who thought he had escaped his past, only to discover that changing your name, leaving the country and starting a new life cannot always keep the past away. Blending comedy, drama and the realities of life in the Jamaican and Caribbean diaspora, Deportee became part of the Jamaican theatre tradition that has entertained audiences both in Jamaica and overseas. The production features Jamaican theatre favourites including Charles Tomlin, Winston “Ricky” Rowe, Lavern Archer and Nyanda Commock. Ricky Rowe, one of the production's stars, has been a prominent figure in Jamaican theatre, with Deportee among the productions featured in his career. Charles Tomlin is also a veteran of Jamaican comedy theatre, with Deportee among his numerous stage credits. The play was also performed in London, demonstrating the strong connection between Jamaican theatre and the Jamaican diaspora in Britain. The London production closed on 22 April 2007.
