In mid-April 2026, Nordic Semiconductor released v1.0.0 of their NTN modem firmware for the nRF9151, a "1.0" tag that's supposed to mean ready for production. So we put it to the test.
This is the NTN Sanity Check: an end-to-end satellite IoT deployment built from off-the-shelf parts, designed to answer the three questions every builder actually asks — does it work, what does it cost, and what does it draw?
The setup:
– Nordic nRF9151 SiP running the v1.0.0 NTN modem firmware
– Actinius Icarus development board
– Kyocera AVX NTN antenna
– Monogoto SIM with native Skylo integration
– TagoIO IoT platform with UDP server
What you'll see in the video:
00:00 — Why we built this
00:33 — The hardware setup
01:11 — Building the NTN application
02:32 — The moment of truth
04:10 — Conclusion
Built with Monogoto, TagoIO, Actinius, and Kyocera AVX. On Nordic silicon. Over Skylo.
