Cleaning a weed-filled sidewalk abandoned for 5 years near the government office shocked everyone For the past five years, the sidewalk right next to the local government headquarters had been abandoned, overgrown with wild grass that completely blocked the walkway, leaving the area shabby and gloomy. Passersby could only shake their heads in frustration, as no one could imagine that such a condition could exist for so long right beside a government office. This street was once clean and well-kept, but due to neglect, the weeds had taken over, forcing people to avoid it whenever they passed by. Our group decided to step in voluntarily, bringing hoes, shovels, bags, and a spirit full of enthusiasm. After many hours of hard work, each section of the sidewalk gradually reappeared, cleaner and tidier than ever. The surprising part was that once the work was done, many local residents stopped to watch from afar, all expressing both amazement and joy. Some even said it was unbelievable that a volunteer group could accomplish something that had been ignored for so many years. Not only that, but a few came to us directly, offering $100 (about 2,600,000 VND) along with heartfelt thanks, noting that we had already cleaned many other sidewalks in this neighborhood. This act not only brought a fresh new look to the street but also spread a spirit of community and raised awareness about protecting our shared environment. For us, the greatest happiness was seeing the smiles and satisfaction on people’s faces as the sidewalk came back to life.
