Can we turn a flat slab of clay into a giant face? Let's find out! 🏺 In this step-by-step handbuilding tutorial, I'm making a large ceramic face from clay — and I'm taking you through the entire process with me. We'll start with a slab of clay and gradually give it dimension and personality, building and shaping the features until our face starts looking back at us. 👀 This is the kind of project I love because no two faces ever turn out quite the same. Your piece doesn't need to look like mine — embrace the wonky, whimsical, unexpected personality that develops along the way! 🏺 In this video we'll explore: Working with slabs of clay Creating a large handbuilt form Building facial features Adding dimension and personality Joining and refining clay Tips and techniques I use in my own ceramic work This is a longer, make-along-with-me tutorial, so grab some clay, set up your workspace, and let's make something weird together! 🎨 New to handbuilding? Check out my Handbuilding 101 series, where we're learning the basics of handbuilding pottery one project at a time. 💬 If you make your own ceramic face, I'd love to hear about it! And tell me in the comments: what should we make together next? 👍 If you enjoy pottery tutorials, kiln openings, glazing experiments, and whimsical ceramic projects, consider subscribing to Muddy River Clay and joining me for more adventures in clay. #pottery #ceramics #handbuilding #claytutorial #ceramicart #potteryforbeginners #claysculpture
