Welcome to artinterhuman. Enjoy this quick 6-minute watercolor painting demonstration as I capture a vibrant yellow portulaca flower, heavily inspired by the loose, creative style of John Singer Sargent. Sargent was a master of capturing immediate light and atmosphere with fresh, spontaneous, and highly confident brushwork. In this study, I wanted to explore his specific watercolor philosophy: ✨ Decisive Gestures – Placing bold, wet marks quickly and letting the water do the work without over-editing. ✨ Saving the Light – Using the raw white of the paper reserve to create that signature, blinding Sargent sunlight effect. ✨ Rich, Living Shadows – Skipping black entirely and using deep blues and warm earth tones to create high-contrast depth behind the bright yellow petals. Sit back, watch the water move, and let me know what you think of this stylistic study in the comments below!
