Cocora Valley is home to Colombia's national tree: the wax palm, the world's tallest species of palm tree. It is also the birthplace of Marino Toro, a guide of the region who show tourists around and try to raise their awareness of the ecological importance of the site.
For many years, palm trees used to be over-exploited for making irrigation channels. Thankfully, the species is now protected, so no one is allowed to chop the trees down or remove the wax. The trees are simply there to embellish the landscape.
Join Marino Toro in the verdant plains of Cocora Valley and learn about all the qualities of this very special tree.
