Welcome back to Barely a Gamer! So another Xbox 360 exclusive has arrived on the Nintendo Switch scene today and this one is one that the community has genuinely been anticipating for a long time. Forza Horizon 1 is being ported to Nintendo Switch, and all credit goes to KazekiKitten for taking this on. One important thing to note before anything else. There is no full public release on the GitHub yet, only an installer page, which strongly suggests this port is still actively under development. So everything I am showing you today is very much an early look at a work in progress. You will need your own legally owned copy of the game. Please do not ask for download links in the comments. Follow the GitHub project for updates and reach out to me on my other social platforms if you need any help. Also Make Sure to Turn Off Your Internet One specific thing to know before trying this. You need to play with your internet connection turned off for the port to work properly right now. Where It All Began Forza Horizon 1 was developed by Playground Games and published by Microsoft, releasing exclusively on Xbox 360 in October 2012. It was a completely fresh direction for the Forza franchise, taking the simulation racing series into a massive open world festival environment set in the Colorado wilderness. The original Horizon Festival setting, the freedom to drive across open roads and fields, the blend of licensed cars and accessible arcade-leaning gameplay, all of it came together into one of the most beloved open world racing games of the seventh generation. The Forza Horizon series has since grown into one of the most popular racing franchises in gaming, but this is where it all started, and it remains an Xbox 360 exclusive to this day with no official modern port ever released. That makes getting it running on Nintendo Switch an even more significant achievement. Performance on Nintendo Switch I want to be completely honest about where this port currently stands because the performance is not there yet. Without overclocking I was getting around 12 to 15 FPS maximum during races with significant stutters, lag, and freezing issues throughout. Not playable in this state. After overclocking to maximum speed using SysClk the performance improved slightly but not enough to make it comfortable, sitting around 18 to 19 FPS with occasional dips back down to 13 to 14 FPS and occasional peaks up to around 25 FPS. Still not a playable racing experience at those numbers. If you push further with 4IFIR or Ultra NX you might squeeze out a bit more performance on top of that, but based on what I experienced I would not recommend anyone try this port right now. Given that there is no full public release yet and this appears to still be under active development, this is clearly a very early showcase rather than a finished product. What to Expect Going Forward KazekiKitten is clearly working on something ambitious here and the community interest in Forza Horizon 1 on Switch is enormous. Keep a close eye on the GitHub for updates. When this port gets more optimisation work behind it the potential is genuinely exciting.
