To dock or not to dock.... that is the question. I made this repeat video because I am getting lots of questions on tail docking and viewers seem to have an aversion to looking back in the records to find 'old stuff'. The first requirement before considering tail docking is its legality in your region. If it is illegal - DON'T DO IT. Secondly, and critically important, is the age of the puppy. TO DOCK A TAIL OF A PUPPY WHEN IT IS OLDER THAN A WEEK, IS CRUEL. DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER IT and please do not ask me how to dock tails of older dogs. I have a serious humour failure when I get asked those questions. I am not a Vet but it is extremely traumatic for the dog even if performed by a qualified person under full aneasthesia. My dogs, with docked tails, regularly catch rabbits and our local roadrunner type chickens, so I do not see any affect on their mobility..... and they are surely just as happy and able to express their feelings, as my dogs with long tails. In this video I will dock the tails of 5 puppies, and whilst they were upset to be woken up, you will clearly hear that they were all fast asleep again within a short while after I applied the constricting rubbers. I choose to dock the tails of my dogs because of a past history of injury to Boerboel tails...... and although I am within 10 km of the nearest Vet, it is across an international border through which NO dogs are allowed. I will therefore have to make a journey of between 2 and 4 hours just to get to a Vet, who might not even be able to safely perform the procedure. Enjoy..... and let me know if I answered your questions.
