🔹 Biblical Context Zechariah was serving as a priest in the temple during his division’s scheduled time. According to the custom of the priests, certain duties were assigned by casting lots (a method of seeking God’s will, similar to drawing names). One of the most sacred tasks was to enter the Holy Place and burn incense before the Lord. On this occasion, the lot fell to Zechariah—a divine moment chosen by God. ⸻ 🔹 Spiritual Significance 1. Divine Appointment Though chosen by “lot,” this moment was not random. It was God-ordained. God used the lot to position Zechariah for a life-changing encounter—the angel Gabriel would appear to him inside the temple and announce the birth of his son, John the Baptist. 2. Answer to Long-Prayed Prayers Zechariah and Elizabeth were elderly and had no children. This lot marked the beginning of answered prayer, revealing God’s perfect timing. 3. Symbol of Purpose in the Routine Zechariah was simply doing his regular duty. Yet God turned an ordinary moment into an extraordinary encounter, reminding us that faithfulness in our daily service prepares us for divine visitation.
