Join us for a captivating front-facing ride on the NYC Subway's R line, journeying from Bay Ridge-95th Street in Brooklyn to Forest Hills-71st Avenue in Queens! Now fully remastered with cutting-edge noise reduction tools, you can experience this iconic moment in NYC Subway history in the best quality possible! This video was made possible thanks to a special one-day event in April 2014, during which the R line utilized a now-retired R32 subway train to facilitate vibration testing along a section of track in Brooklyn. The R32s, beloved by transit enthusiasts, are iconic symbols of the NYC subway. Having been officially retired from regular service, their passenger-accessible front window—a feature absent from modern subway cars still running today—allowed this unique video to be recorded. Since the NYC Subway does not regularly use front window-equipped rolling stock anymore, legally recording videos like this of regular service trains is no longer possible, making footage like this all the more valuable and historic! There are several interesting scenes in this video that depict things that no longer exist, such as the now-replaced vintage 1930s-era signals between 36th Street and Forest Hills, as well as R160s running on the N and Q lines! At the time when this was filmed, two notable service changes were in effect. Weekend R train service was running over the Manhattan Bridge, to facilitate heavy reconstruction work of the Montague Tube. Northbound R trains also ran express from Queens Plaza to Roosevelt Avenue to facilitate track work, both of which are also depicted here.
