The weather forecast wasn't the greatest, but we decided to visit the newly renovated bothy, The Red House (Ruighe Ealasaid). And from there we inspected the river crossing for the following day. The river was in spate, however there was no more rain and we knew it would calm down over night.
The next morning we set off to climb two remote munros, An Sgarsoch and Càrn an Fhidhleir (Carn Ealar). We were lucky to be taken over the second river crossing by contractors who have been working in the area, building deer fences.
The path passes by the Geldie Lodge (only a ruin now), and then slowly disappears as you start heading up the first munro. Generally, there isn't much of a path, but heather and bog. In the cloud and in this time of the year without snow, it is quite bleak but as soon as the clouds clear away, the views are amazing.
We met a nice hillwalker in the bothy, all the way from London, on an escape to Scottish wilderness for few days, braving the weather. And as we returned for our stuff to the bothy after the hike, a lovely couple was just settling in for the night.
It was wet and challenging terrain, but great adventure as always :)
